Nationwide to keep more employees at home – The Columbus Dispatch

Nationwide anticipates to have more of its employees stay at home even after the coronavirus outbreak is over. The insurance company states it will preserve large campuses in 4 cities while closing some of its smaller offices in other cities with employees working from home.

If the coronavirus outbreak has actually taught Nationwide anything, it’s that the insurance company can serve its insurance policy holders with almost all of its staff working from home.

Office have been so successful that Nationwide now states countless its employees will stay home to work even after the outbreak is over.

The Columbus-based insurance company stated Wednesday that it is adopting a hybrid operating model in which employees at 4 main business campuses, consisting of Columbus, will work mainly at the office.

Nationwide will close offices in other parts of the nation by Nov. 1.

Places set up to close include Gainesville, Florida; Harleysville, Pennsylvania; Raleigh, North Carolina; Wausau, Wisconsin; and Richmond, Virginia.

The 4,000 employees at those offices will continue to work from home or some other place, Nationwide stated.

For Nationwide, the relocation speeds up something currently in the works.

“It’s belonged to our long-lasting plan,” stated Wind King, Nationwide’s chief administrative officer. “It just got sped up over the previous 6-7 weeks.”

“We pushed the fast-forward button,”stated Kirt Walker, Nationwide’s CEO.

Due to the fact that of the coronavirus, Nationwide quickly moved its employees out of its offices weeks ago.

Of its 28,000 employees, 98% have been working from home or another remote place.

Before the pandemic, about 5,000 Nationwide employees– about 18% of the total– worked from home.

Of those Nationwide employees at home, 90% have told the business they can operate at home as long as needed and 98% state they can serve consumers from home.

“We understand how to get the work done any place we are. At the end of the day, that’s what matters,” King stated.

In Columbus, Nationwide’s offices Downtown and in Grandview Heights will remain open. Other offices that will remain open remain in Des Moines, Iowa; Scottsdale, Arizona; and San Antonio, Texas.

Those locations were selected due to the fact that they currently have a large concentration of employees and the flexibility to serve Nationwide insurance policy holders throughout time zones.

Workplaces that are closing will reduce Nationwide’s office by about 2 million square feet.

Exceptions to the closings include Nationwide Family pet’s service operations in Brea, California; Nationwide’s New york city City office, where the business’s management liability and specialized service is based; and Nationwide’s annuity circulation center in Louisville, Kentucky.

There might be other exceptions, such as smaller offices and locations that are needed by state plans or service need to have a workplace place to service members.

Nationwide anticipates to finalize information over the next a number of months, consisting of the innovation and devices needs of employees.

Even at the large campuses that Nationwide will preserve, more employees are anticipated to remain home once the pandemic reduces.

Nationwide stated about 75% of those employees will report to the office.
